FORECAST rom the mauves of the 1880s, to the reds of the 60s, to the silvers of today color has de ned design throughout the decades. (In fact, paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore is paying tribute to this fact this year with its Color Spanning Three Centuries exhibit a look into the paint colors that best represent each decade.) While recognizing and anticipating color trends comes with the territory of anyone in a design profession, one group has made this its exclusive purpose: the Color Marketing Group (CMG). As the premier international association for color design professionals, the CMG s mission is to create color forecast information for professionals who design and market color, stating it s the place for color info exchange. Window Fashions, with the help of our own color expert, Bruce Knott (director of WFCP/Media Relations for Grace McNamara Inc. (GMI) and a CMG chairholder), has learned that the CMG forecast for Consumer Colors Current for 2009 consists of 22 established colors (colors that have established themselves as consistent best sellers in many industries) and 16 new introductions (colors that will appear in product in the next 12 to 18 months). Window Fashions spoke with various color specialists regarding colors designers can expect to arrive on the scene in the coming years. 2008- 10 An Exclusive Glimpse into the Colorful Future By Jennifer Jacob 29 7/23/08 3:08:44 PM The palette at left represents Color Marketing Group s Consumer Colors Current New Introductions. wf_Aug08_p1-50.indd 29
